New Flix: Synchronicity

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping.  Today's Film is Synchronicity, a 2015 Sci-Fi Film about Time Travel.  It sure is...a Movie.  No, it isn't that bad, but it sure wasn't quite as fun as I was hoping.  The Story is about three guys who build a Time Machine and...oh shit, this is Primer again, isn't it?  Not quite- this one is constantly-filtered blue like Underworld.  In addition, every negative review on IMDB points out how much the Film wants to look like Blade Runner.  Every positive review goes 'Yeah, but...shut up.'  I may have paraphrased that last part.  This Story revolves (quite literally) around Jim ending up in some sort of time loop and trying to get out of it. Can he?  Well, to find out, without SPOILERS, read on...
In Los Angeles, three Scientists have been working on a Time Machine that involves Worm Holes.  You're going to destroy the World, aren't you?
During the first test with their backer (Katana from Highlander 2), things take a turn...
Our Hero passes out as they open a gateway and this doesn't bode well for the future of the project.
Luckily, he meets a random woman outside and...takes her to Dinner with the Investor?  Sure- why not?!?
While things are going great with her, he's getting strange questions from his friends and experiencing blackouts.  This is either involving Time Travel or Crystal Meth.
Things take a worse turn still when the Investor (the Deputy from Lake Placid 3) tries to take full control!
As the day of the second half of the Experiment approaches, things get weird.  What will Jim do?
More importantly, will his love survive?  Yes, that's more important that TIME TRAVEL.  To find out how it all wraps up, read on...
Disappointing for me, but maybe not for you.  The Story is kind of interesting, the pacing is too slow.  It just kind of drags, which is a shame.  This is a Film about Time Travel.  As bad as it was, Time Chasers wasn't boring!  This one should be more interesting, but it just doesn't do a lot with the premise.  When the whole idea of Time Loops comes into play, things get a little more interesting.  The problem: Films like Time Crimes and Predestination have done it better.  The former had more interesting things going on in general, while the latter had a premise that actually paid off.  This one...is mostly an excuse for an awkward Romantic Film.  I get it- the relationship is designed to be the hook.  Of course, you are opening worm holes and have the other Machinist from The Machinist in your Film, so why is that the case?  The Acting is alright, but unremarkable.  The Special Effects aren't bad, but the Budget determined that there wasn't much of them.  If you like Sci-Fi and Time Travel, there are some good ideas here.  Ultimately, the Film didn't sell me.  It might sell you.  On the plus side, it isn't Primer!
Next up, more from the random grab-bag.  This one promises from the get-go to be more interesting, so here's hoping!  Stay tuned...
